Summary

NATIONAL BESTSELLER

A unique, unfiltered memoir from the NBA champion and fifteen-time all-star ahead of his induction into the Hall of Fame。

Kevin Garnett was one of the most dominant players the game of basketball has ever seen。 He was also one of its most outspoken。 Over the course of his illustrious twenty-one-year NBA career, he elevated trash talk to an art form and never shied away from sharing his thoughts on controversial subjects。 In KG A to Z, published ahead of Garnett’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame, he looks back on his life and career with the same raw candor。

Garnett describes the adversity he faced growing up in South Carolina before ultimately relocating to Chicago, where he became one of the top prospects in the nation。 He details his headline-making decision to skip college and become the first player in two decades to enter the draft directly from high school, starting a trend that would be followed by future superstars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James。 He shares stories of playing with and against Bryant, James, Michael Jordan, and other NBA greats, and he chronicles his professional ups and downs, including winning a championship with the Boston Celtics。 He also speaks his mind on a range of topics beyond basketball, such as fame, family, racism, spirituality, and music。

Garnett’s draft decision wasn’t the only way he’d forever change the game。 His ability to play on the perimeter as a big man foreshadowed the winning strategy now universally adopted by the league。 He applies this same innovative spirit here, organizing the contents alphabetically as an encyclopedia。 If you thought Kevin Garnett was exciting, inspiring, and unfiltered on the court, just wait until you read what he has to say in these pages。

Kevin Garnett is one of my favorite basketball players & athletes of all-time。 The same intensity that he brings on the court, you feel reading this autobiography。 He starts off by mentioning that he’s dyslexic and has ADHD which this leads to the format of the book, Chapters A to Z to help it be a more engaging read with short journal style entries。A lot of older / retired basketball players are bitter about today’s game and players but KG is anything but, he pays respect to those before him an Kevin Garnett is one of my favorite basketball players & athletes of all-time。 The same intensity that he brings on the court, you feel reading this autobiography。 He starts off by mentioning that he’s dyslexic and has ADHD which this leads to the format of the book, Chapters A to Z to help it be a more engaging read with short journal style entries。A lot of older / retired basketball players are bitter about today’s game and players but KG is anything but, he pays respect to those before him and praises those currently excelling in the game。 As authentic and unique a player as KG was, this is an equally authentic biographical account of his life & basketball career。 。。。more

I read this as part of book club。 I don’t particularly like basketball but I do respect KG and what he has done。 However, I thought the book skipped around too much。 There wasn’t a cohesive story and it didn’t go in chronological order so it was just kind of choppy for me。

I loved this book。 I have followed KG since he entered the NBA in 1995。 I always knew he was smart。 This book showed me he is actually brilliant。 He has a huge heart for others and zero tolerance for hate。 He thrives on positive thinking and energy。 Any fan of the NBA would enjoy this book。 Unless you’re a hater。 Definitely recommend。

This book was also one of my favorites and one of my more recent reads。 It goes through every letter of the alphabet and explains a word and its meaning to Kevin Garnett。 I love rereading the book because it gives interesting stories about Kevin Garnett and his life pre and post-playing in the NBA。

As a KG fan from childhood, this book is a deeper look into the man behind the basketball player and superstar we all know。 It’s a refreshing look at the other facets, such as his thought process & philosophy as a person。 However, every sentence still screams the same KG that we loved: intense, genuine, and fun。 Love this book from my childhood idol!

3。5 I actually liked the format and appreciated that it was in his speaking style。 Too many topics。 Would’ve loved a deeper dive into fewer topics and to learn more about his current personal life, i。e。 wife & kids etc。 And no one in MN says “Minnie”…

Great book but I’d admonish people who don’t know KG well when diving into this one。 The book is a bit esoteric if you’re not well versed with basketball culture nor follow the league closely。 I understood all the references and things he describes so as a big fan of his I enjoyed reading through this candid, authentic take on his life。

I think for someone who know very little about basketball, this book was a bit jarring。 There was an expectation that the reader was somewhat familiar with a lot of the people and institutions。 That being said, this book feels really authentic, especially in the way language was used, and it was cool Garnett wasn't forced to standardize it I think for someone who know very little about basketball, this book was a bit jarring。 There was an expectation that the reader was somewhat familiar with a lot of the people and institutions。 That being said, this book feels really authentic, especially in the way language was used, and it was cool Garnett wasn't forced to standardize it 。。。more

A fun and unique read as the biography is set-up in encyclopedia form。 Interesting look at the mind and life of KG!

If I ever write my autobiography, it'd be in this A-Z format。 I finally got to learn what fires him up inside。 Enjoyed reading about his relationships with family and people who shaped his life。 There are also some general advice for things he faced in life, like negotiations, perfection, and routines。 If I ever write my autobiography, it'd be in this A-Z format。 I finally got to learn what fires him up inside。 Enjoyed reading about his relationships with family and people who shaped his life。 There are also some general advice for things he faced in life, like negotiations, perfection, and routines。 。。。more

7。6/10I love KG。 Love his story, passion, play。 This book had a lot of wisdom。 It's written in non-chronological order; not my cup of tea, but its short chapters are。 Easy to digest, easy to fly。 Fun fact: KG's birthday is May 19th。 7。6/10I love KG。 Love his story, passion, play。 This book had a lot of wisdom。 It's written in non-chronological order; not my cup of tea, but its short chapters are。 Easy to digest, easy to fly。 Fun fact: KG's birthday is May 19th。 。。。more

I was very surprised by how fresh, interesting, honest, creative, and fun to read this book was。 Kevin Garnet organized it in short alphabetically ordered chapters, as he explains, this is how his ADHD brain works; in short bursts of attention spans。 The book has a very good proportion of childhood stories mixed with basketball ones。 KG was a great player but, and this is more important, is a great human being with a huge heart。 His stories are very original and unexpected, like the story of how I was very surprised by how fresh, interesting, honest, creative, and fun to read this book was。 Kevin Garnet organized it in short alphabetically ordered chapters, as he explains, this is how his ADHD brain works; in short bursts of attention spans。 The book has a very good proportion of childhood stories mixed with basketball ones。 KG was a great player but, and this is more important, is a great human being with a huge heart。 His stories are very original and unexpected, like the story of how Dennis Rodman came to the gym after the lost game to run the treadmill systematically increasing the speed while constantly talking to Garnett without breaking a sweat。 Or the story of his late-night conversation with AI when they were still undrafted teenagers。 He covers topics from music, weed, video games, to acting, Ubuntu, or racism in the NBA。 If you are a basketball fan, you will love it。 If you are not, you will love it too, as there is so much more here than just old and boring NBA stories。 。。。more

When reading KG A to Z, it can be typed weirdly, but it works very well for Kevin Garnett。 He really wanted this book to be different from any other book out there。 He didn’t want the story to start and finish, he wanted it to be put in different sections in his life。 Each topic is set in different letters and it starts from A to Z。 At first, it starts kinda odd but after a few pages, it starts to click together。 For example, in the letter A, it has topics like Arm wrestling, Arrival, and Atlant When reading KG A to Z, it can be typed weirdly, but it works very well for Kevin Garnett。 He really wanted this book to be different from any other book out there。 He didn’t want the story to start and finish, he wanted it to be put in different sections in his life。 Each topic is set in different letters and it starts from A to Z。 At first, it starts kinda odd but after a few pages, it starts to click together。 For example, in the letter A, it has topics like Arm wrestling, Arrival, and Atlanta。 Garnett talks about these topics and what he thinks about them。 The book has a lot of bad words, but I don’t care。 I love it。 It reflects on his personality。 He has always been fierce, and a true competitor。 KG A to Z is by far, the best book I have ever read in my entire life。 I haven’t read a lot of books in my life, but this one tops them all。 I don’t have anything negative to say about KG A to Z。 Nothing, That’s how good it is。 He went through a lot in his life and the things he says inspires me to do better。 There should be a lot of more books like this one。 It has a lot of good content, with 307 pages。 Many people should be able to enjoy this book, whether you like basketball or not。 。。。more

What I got from it: 1。 Look for 'old cats,' people who've been there before and learn as much as you can from them。2。 'ubuntu:' I can't be everything I can be unless you are being everything you can be (a teamwork motto for the Boston Celtics)。3。 We all have insecurities, even the greats。 Kevin Garnett grew up in a small town in South Carolina and was very shy as a kid。 He recalls hating his growth spurt, as being tall meant that he couldn't hide away and was always looked at。 He also mentioned What I got from it: 1。 Look for 'old cats,' people who've been there before and learn as much as you can from them。2。 'ubuntu:' I can't be everything I can be unless you are being everything you can be (a teamwork motto for the Boston Celtics)。3。 We all have insecurities, even the greats。 Kevin Garnett grew up in a small town in South Carolina and was very shy as a kid。 He recalls hating his growth spurt, as being tall meant that he couldn't hide away and was always looked at。 He also mentioned insecurity regarding how dark his skin tone was。 。。。more

I was very excited to read this book, there were some interesting tidbits, some humor, but the bouncing around made it not the best read。 Also I’m not sure if there was enough fact checking ie The Charolette Sting did not win the title in 2001, they were beat by the LA Sparks。 I finished the book but it was not that exciting and at times redundant ie。 We all know that KG was a beast but did he have to keep telling us that。

Just finished this book。 Fantastic。 KG has always been one of my favorite players。 Intensity on another level, with trash talk that always made me laugh(he told one dude that his wife tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios)。 I also knew that he had an unconventional route to the league and almost got screwed by the justice system on the way up。His book has a narrative unlike anything I’ve ever read。 It’s all over the place but still structurally sound so you can follow along。 He opens by explaining that Just finished this book。 Fantastic。 KG has always been one of my favorite players。 Intensity on another level, with trash talk that always made me laugh(he told one dude that his wife tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios)。 I also knew that he had an unconventional route to the league and almost got screwed by the justice system on the way up。His book has a narrative unlike anything I’ve ever read。 It’s all over the place but still structurally sound so you can follow along。 He opens by explaining that he wrote it in the way that he thinks, which is all over the place。 By writing it like an encyclopedia it allows for short passages that keeps the book moving at a brisk pace。 There’s times you can feel his despair, other times you’ll laugh。 This book definitely goes down in my favorite sports memoirs。 。。。more

I Love KG。。。。By far one of my favorite basketball players。。。。I love his love for the game。 This story basically chronical his rise as an NBA player。 KG touches on his life growing up and how he developed a love for the game, how music played an intricate part of his life from past to present as well as some of the legends he admires。 This was really a captivating book。

Must read for all Celtics, Minnie, and KG fans。 He keeps his broken English and you can tell 100% this book was written on speakwrite with input from a ghost writer。

。。。more

KG has a unique voice, and he isn't afraid to say what he thinks。 I think the format of doing it like an encyclopedia was cool, but it still had some linear narrative structure。 He curses。 You can hear his voice。 And he gives an interesting perspective on his life and experience。 Overall solid read, would recommend mostly to bball fans。 KG has a unique voice, and he isn't afraid to say what he thinks。 I think the format of doing it like an encyclopedia was cool, but it still had some linear narrative structure。 He curses。 You can hear his voice。 And he gives an interesting perspective on his life and experience。 Overall solid read, would recommend mostly to bball fans。 。。。more

This book is a must read for any KG fan or any fan of the NBA in the glory years of players like Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, Iverson, Webber, etc。 The encyclopedia format of the book is different。 I prefer my autobiographies to have more of a chronological order but I didn’t mind changing it up。 The book is written in true KG fashion。 For maximum enjoyment, read it as if you are KG。 Trust me。 This book was never going to get a rating lower than 4/5 cause my love for KG is strong。
